The Kipling Journal

The latest edition of the Kipling Journal has arrived, made up of eight papers delivered at last year’s conference at Canterbury. They include some of those that I enjoyed most at the time – Dorothea Flotow’s account of recent fictional treatments of John Kipling; Daniel Karlin’s analysis of Tin Fish; and Carolyn Oulton’s paper “‘aint goin’ to have any beastly Erickin'”, about male friendship in Stalky and Co. – as well as my own piece on Kipling and shell shock. Versions of all of these are online, at the Kipling Society’s website, but it’s good to have them in a printed version too.
