Hanley’s attestation papers

Thanks to a bit of help from Julian Putkowski, I have now found James Hanley’s attestation papers, filled out  when he enlisted in Canada on April 27th, 1917, when he was only sixteen. His height was five foot two, and he had several tattoos.

The battalion he joined was the New Brunswick Kilties.  This was disbanded in March 1918, and most men joined the Canadian Black Watch, which tallies with the ODNB’s statement that Hanley served with that regiment.

I’ll see if I can get hold of his complete service record.
