Autumn is a busy time. Here are a few forthcoming events:
October 21-22 Rudyard Kipling: An International Writer
Two-day conference at the Institute of English Studies, University of London, Senate House. Details here. (I shall be giving a paper on Kipling’s representation of Germans, in ‘Mary Postgate’ and elsewhere.)
9th November Strange Joy : The Poetry of War
Talk by Prof.Paul O’Prey, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Roehampton, at 6pm in the Chapel at Southlands College, University of Roehampton, Roehampton Lane, London, SW15 5SL. Directions to the college can be found here.
November 12 Siegfried Sassoon: From Mametz Wood to “The General”
At the Imperial War Museum. Details here.
Last year Sir Martin Gilbert & Dr Jean Moorcroft Wilson did an excellent double act about Edward Thomas at Arras. This year they are following it up with a pair of talks about Sassoon. Once again, he will presumably talk about the Battle of the Somme, while she will explain what Sassoon was doing there.
The list of this year’s War Studies seminars at the University of Birmingham is now online. Details here. I’ll try to get to the one on Kut.
If you know of any other events of interest, please add them in the comments section.
